Etheldreda Oleshya Keylavan Wibowo Vieira, commonly known as Oshya, is a teenager from Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. This promising young girl, at the tender age of 10 and in Year 5 of primary school, was one of 31 participants in the first Remaja Wadah Indonesia (Rewind) programme in 2015. Rewind is a character-building programme for teenagers through basic leadership training organized by the Wadah Foundation in Arjasari Village, Bandung, West Java, from 29 July to 1 August 2015. The event was attended by teenagers from various Wadah communities in Jabobek, Yogyakarta, West Java, and Eastern Indonesia.

Oshya’s participation in the Rewind programme was not without reason. Ever since she was in Year 3 of primary school, she had been accustomed to various social activities such as free medical treatment and study support at the Basic Christian Community (Kelompok Umat Basis/KUB) in her neighborhood. These valuable experiences fostered a sense of empathy and concern for others within her. Seeing Oshya’s high level of motivation in various social activities, her father encouraged her to take part in the Rewind programme.

Rewind Paves the Way to the Future

The essence of Rewind extends far beyond the development of practical skills. The programme became a spiritual journey that transformed her outlook. Oshya discovered that the most memorable lessons from the youth programme were the importance of always being grateful, remaining humble, and practicing a simple lifestyle.

This was the first time she had reflected deeply on her life. The skills honed from a young age—such as expressing opinions clearly, thinking critically in every situation, and public speaking—are now valuable assets for Oshya as she looks to the future.

“The Rewind programme taught me independence, self-confidence, and the importance of gratitude, and shaped me into a better person,” Oshya said firmly.

Overall, Oshya feels that Rewind has made her a better person, both in terms of soft skills and hard skills. She has successfully internalized every lesson, every interaction, and every challenge within Rewind and applied them to every aspect of her life. This includes her active involvement in various organizations during her school years. This holistic experience has not only shaped a strong and independent character but has also fundamentally prepared her to face all the dynamics involved in achieving unlimited success in the future. Oshya is not merely a participant; she is living proof of the transformative power of inspiration for every young person who dreams of growing and developing to their full potential.

In 2022, Oshya was successfully admitted to the Faculty of Military Medicine at the Indonesian Defence University (Unhan) in Bogor, West Java. This is a source of great pride for Oshya, who has just completed his dissertation last month and is currently waiting for her clinical placement to begin. Furthermore, she actively contributes as a member of the Asian Medical Student Association (AMSA), applying every experience gained from Rewind to make a tangible impact on her own life.

Despite her busy schedule as a prospective military doctor, memories of the Rewind programme remain etched in her mind. She regards this character-building programme as a highly significant phase of personal growth. Living far from her parents, staying with local residents, and living independently presented challenges that shaped her character—forging her initiative, honing her ability to interact with diverse individuals, strengthening her public speaking skills, and building resilient self-confidence.
